In which Demi sells her soul (and precious time)

Okay, bad blogging AGAIN, bad Demi! So much has happened since my last post, this'll be a rambling list of an update.

1. I TURNED 18 FINALLY!! Yes indeeeeeed, it took long enough to roll around, but it's here at last. Only problem is all my friends have been so busy, whether it's working, being on holiday or seeing their Other Halves that I'm yet to buy my first legal drink! My poor drivers license is sat sullenly in my wallet.

I got a bunch of stuff, but my favourite thing is my new bracelet. Thank you, Mum and Dad!!

It's by a woman called Alexis Dove so if you fancy a nice piece of jewellery, check her out!

2. I've taken on a second job, hence the title of this post. I'm now working in a call centre 9.30-4, Mon-Fri, on top of my waitressing job over the weekend. On the one hand I'm really regretting getting the job. I mean seriously, it's SUMMER. The last summer I'll be spending with my high school friends to be precise. With these two jobs I will effectively have no life. But then I think of the fact that in just 6 weeks I will have earnt over a thousand pounds, and it seems worth it. I'd be so proud of myself if I could earn that much, not to mention how much it would help my parents, who have myself AND my brother to send to Uni this year.

3. Shopping galooooore, with my birthday money! I ordered some silver jewellery under strict instructions from my aunt to splurge and buy myself something special with her money. I have WAYYY too much jewellery as it is, but I couldn't resist. More on that when they get shipped. Next there was my shopping trip the other day with my friends, which resulted in a gorgeous Grecian-style dress for my birthday party and this slightly awesome, kooky sheer lace top. Pictures of them soon.

4. My annual (or bi-annual at this stage, score!) check-up this week. I know this kinda seems out of the blue, as I haven't mentioned it before on here. I'm not even sure how many people actually read this... Anyway, I suppose I should explain; I have regular check-ups at the doctors because when I was a baby I had cancer.
There wasn't much to report, but I'm due some blood tests and kidney tests, as it's been 5yrs since my last ones. Also I've asked to have a fertility test, since there's a strong risk the chemo I had ruined any chance of me being able to have a baby. I'm 18 now, so I figure I'm old enough to know. But to be perfectly honest, if it IS bad news, I don't know if I'll be able to handle it.

ANYWAY to cheer me up, Mum treated me to this gorgeous shirt dress while we were shopping for dinner in Tesco after the hospital appointment.

Shirt dress: Tesco; Leggings: Matalan; Bag: Aldo; Bracelet: Alexis Dove

It's actually made of REAL flannel and is so snuggly I wore it out despite the fact it's the middle of summer :)

More soon when my stuff arrives! xo

In which Demi counts to 20

Twenty favourite things, taken from the open tag opportunity by Daisy Chain Dreams :)

1. Colour: Silver and blue (especcially aqua/turquoise shades), although I have a huuuge love of purple right now, as can be seen in my prom photos. Dress, watch and nails. I looked like an advertisement for the colour.

2. Dessert: My favourite meal. Doughnuts would be number one I think. I think. Although I adore cheesecake.

3. Smell: Miss Dior Cherie. So fresh and beautiful, I love it. Also strawberries, freshly cut grass and baking. Oooh, and new books.

4. Flower: Lily. It's my mum's favourite too, but ever since we've had the cats we haven't really been able to have them in the house, since it turns out cats are allergic to the pollen. Bummerrr.

5. Animal: I love giraffes, I think they're awsome. Also cats. And elephants. And dolphins. I love animals in general tbh.

6. Month: July. End of school, holidays and my birthday month. What more could you want?

7. Beverage: I used to have a bordering-on-unhealthy obsession with Diet Coke, but at the moment I am LOVING Fanta Lemon Zero. Soooo much more refreshing. And then tea, which I basically live off.

8. Shoes: My old leopard-print flats that I wore so much they literally disintergrated. And my brown and gold wedges.

9. Snacks: Skips crisps. I have been pretty much living off them and cups of tea since I went on Study Leave. Also, Pringles. When I'm feeling slightly more healthy (which isn't often) I love almonds and fresh pineapple.

10. Songs: 'Untouched' by the Veronicas is my current obsession, although 'Breakdown' by Plain White Tee's, 'Another Heart Calls' by All American Rejects and 'Disturbia' by Rihanna are all up there too.

11. Book: I read this amazing novel called 'Queen of Glass' on Fictionpress.com that was fantastic, but since she's taken it down to persue publication I guess I'd have to say the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman which had a HUGE impact on me and they way I look at the world.

12. Fruit: Fresh, cold pineapple. With honeydew melon as a close second.

13. Hairstyle: Anything that keeps it out of my face. I loved my hair for prom, but it took over an hour to do, so it's hardly something I can replicate every day.

14. Pieces of Clothing: My leavers' hoody (snuggles), my silver and black party dress.

15. Stores to Shop: Ooooft. Any. Extra points if they're cheap :)

17. Hobbies: Reading, writing, Wii, horse-riding, skiing, mooching :)

18. Things to Collect: Useless crap. Case in point, I'm currently eyeing a little Hello Kitty figurine A brought me back from Taiwan a couple of years ago. I have no idea why I still have it. I do keep mementos like film tickets, gig tickets etc and I've built up a scrapbook for my 2yrs in Sixth Form, which is now overflowing. I attach too much sentimental value to absolutely useless things.

19. Movies: I adore Little Miss Sunshine. Love it. Also Lord of the Rings (2nd one especcially).

20. Restaurant: Chinese restaurants. I love them. Also anywhere that serves pizza. Or burgers. I'm easily pleased.

I tag the fabulous Rowan from Row-Rowing my Boat who is a fellow Wales musketeer ! Also anyone else who reads this. Go mad.

In which Demi misses the pen and paper

I think I've figured out why I'm such a lazy blogger. Aside from the fact that I am... well, lazy. And why I find it so much more difficult to write - whether it's a story, an essay or a boring blog post - when staring at this little bright box perched on my lap.

I miss writing. Real writing. Using a pen and paper. Smudged ink, mis-spellings and odd grammar in haste that don't get underlined in a squiggly red line for being a freakin' fragment, crossing out, re-reading, filling up notebooks.

Why do we think that typing into a little box with neat, printed, perfect font can replicate that?

I'm filled with the urge to drive to Paperchase or WHSmiths and stock up on notebooks. Ring-bound, preferrably (I have a tendency of ripping what I've written out at a later date, or in the light of day, when I realise it was actually pretty crap) although my fingers are itching for a leatherbound, traditional notebook. A moleskin, or whatever they're called.

I need to get back into it before I hit Uni in September, or I'll never get my spark and love for writing and reading back.

I hate how it feels like a job. A chore. Something I have to do. Why the hell do I feel like I have to read Jane Eyre otherwise I'll be a failure as an English student? Why the hell should I feel obligated to love the classics when they actually bore me crazy?? Why can't I just get back to reading a book simply because I like the sound of it? Hell, when was the last time I read something simple. Harry Potter, of all things, has become so crazily appealing since I finished school.

I blame the film I watched tonight. Girl, Interrupted. Maybe we are all crazy. Who knows.

In which Demi is no longer Cinderella

So last night didn't go *quite* to plan. For starters, S changed her mind about staying at mine and ended up getting a lift home with her mum and bf at the end of the night. She was also kinda late getting to mine, which then had a knock-on effect with our planned drinks&photos at KT's. We only had like 5mins and didn't have time for a drink, but managed to get some photos.

THEN when we rocked up to the Pavillions on time, the rest of our group took between half an hour and an hour to show up! The cheek of it.

So we sat down for dinner (typical mass catering standard) and pretty much died of dehydration as we were only given 2 bottles of still water between 12, and the drinks waitress never returned with more despite our attempts to order some.

Then there was the inevitable 'professional' photographer and dancing.

[Excuse the photo, it's off the website]

There was a general Michael Jackson overkill, but that was to be expected I suppose. 10 of his songs in a row was a bit much though, as good as they are.

THEN we headed into Harrogate, only to have trouble in Rev's when A's bf was refused entry because he accidently dropped his bus pass when he got out his ID, which obviously had a different name and photo on them to the passport he was trying to use. Smooth. So we spent some time trying to convince them to give us the passport back, and in the end he had to call his parents and be picked up, which left A in a bad mood as would be expected.

Since Rev's was pretty much deserted [tbh, I have no idea why we went there in the first place, when the offical after-party that EVERYONE would be at was at Moko's and Rev's is ridiculously overpriced] we headed to Moko's, where I FINALLY got some alcohol down me. By this point it was almost gone 12 and I was thirsty as well as wanting to get some alcohol in the system.

Moko's was fun, as usual, although I really wouldn't recommend wearing a ball dress there again, it was crazy hot. Lots of laughter, lots of dancing and lots of photos, before we decided to call it a night, to get home for about 3.

I wish I was more of a night person. By 2 I'm pretty much dead, it's pretty annoying. Practice makes perfect I guess! xo

In which Demi goes to the ball

Countdown til Prom time: 4hrs 10mins

Status: Faketanned. Hair washed. Mani-pedi done. In the next hour I'll hop back into the shower and rinse off this faketan gunk so I no longer smell like a biscuit, then head to the hairdressers for my 'Hair Up Consultation'.

I got so confused by the name that last week I rang them up to double check that, yes, I would actually be having my hair done and not just talk about it. The receptionist had the cheek to laugh at me. Don't call it a bloomin' "consultation" then!!

S is staying over tonight, so she'll be here at about 6.30 to finish getting ready and take silly pics. Then on to KT's house, where we shall have more pictures and some drinks to avoid the ridiculous prices they charge at the Pavillions.

By 7.15 we'll be on our way to meet the others at the Pavillions for 7.30.

I feel so much better for writing all that down, it was all getting jumbled in my head :)

Wahhhhhhhhh, so excited! xo

In which Demi dusts off the blogger

Okay, so it's been, what... 3 months? Criiikey. What is there to say other than school owned my life? Nyeh, who cares about excuses. My last exam [wahoo!] was exactly a week ago, and now it's the night before my Leaver's Ball. And then that's it.

Over.

Finis.

No more high school. I can't quite wrap my head around it. On the one hand I'm practically bursting at the seams, ready to pack up and move to the gorgeous campus at Nottingham. But at the same time... I look around at my friends and family, and I can't imagine not seeing them every day. I wish I could take everyone with me and just dump a whole load of new people and friends on top of that.

C'est la vie, I guess. More soon when I'm not wasting precious and much-needed beauty sleep.

In which Demi is ill

So I managed to come down with some sort of fusion of the flu and a cold. Yay me. Although I'm pretty proud that this is the first time I've been properly ill since September. Normally my useless immune system would have failed me many times over by now. It also got me the day off work, since Mum rang in and announced I was in no fit state to work. I can tell my boss will be even less impressed with me than he already is when I get back to work next week.
Found out that Mum accidently spent £80 on my debit card, since it was the last one registered on the QVC website, and she's given me the money back. I now have itchy fingers and racing images of everything I want to buy. I'm dying for a casual boyfriend blazer and some pumps. Like primary school pumps. Cuuute. And a some new dresses. And a million other things.
Found some pictures I've been meaning to post. This is the outfit I wore to the Nottingham Uni visit day for English applicants.

Coat - Dorothy Perkins, Scarf - Mum's , Bag - Ollie&Nic, jeans - New Look

Knit top - Et Vous at Matalan, Boots - Matalan, Bracelets - Vintage and presents.

The friends I went with were laughing at me the whole day since I couldn't stop staring at all the students. I went to the Open Day in the summer, but it obviously wasn't term time then, whereas this was mid-Feb so everyone was there. Suffice to say I recieved a lot of weird looks from the students I was gawking. It also gave me an idea of what everyone wears around the campus. I was slightly disgusted by the amount of boys just wearing a hoody and tracksuit bottoms. Where is your style?!? Gahh.

I also found this pic my Dad snapped of me in the special lounge of Amsterdam airport on the way back from skiing. It makes me cringe and chuckle equally.

I should really put more effort into what I wear when travelling. Ahh well.

More soon, after I hand in The Project From Hell - aka my English Lang coursework, which is due tomorrow.

Save me. xo

Saturday 7 March 2009

In which Demi gets her act together. Finally.

I am possibly the laziest person I know, apart from my brother. Hence the absence. I could blame other stuff (hello English coursework, job, parties, skiing and much more) but I won't.

Decided to spruce up the ol' blog a bit. They didn't have the right purple I wanted, so I'm sticking with blue for a bit longer.

Today hopefully marks a new start for me. It's now March; I leave school in 10 weeks (dear lord); I've finally accepted my place at Nottingham Uni; my leavers hoody arrives next week; I pick the comments for my leavers book; and I'm about to start my revision, once I finish this weekend's Spring Clean. Which has taken about 4 hours so far, and is nowhere near over.

Although I did find some adorable old souvenirs from childhood, including the Valentine's Day card I received from my first 'boyfriend', aged 10. Inside it read:
Roses are red, Violets are blue
Tulips are beautiful and so are you.
It's just a shame he spelt my name wrong. Bless.

Adore Andorra!

Okay, so I've been blog lazy recently. No real excuse other than more work than there has been snow up here [which is too much. Although I haven't slipped and fallen on my ass... yet], two shifts a week at work and now I'm going skiing for half term. Sosososososososo excited, especcially since one of my best guy friends is also going and we're gonna meet up and snowball fight :)

Not me, borrowed from http://www.hanover.edu
So I will be absent for another week, hopefully returning with a goggle tan and no broken bones. YAY!

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day to everyone for tomorrow. I hope everyone has fun, whether it's a date, hookup or boycott :) haha

SNOWWWWWWWWWW

So this is the view I woke up to this morning :) I swear, these windows were worth every penny. We have two of them in our new extension, and they just give the most amazing views.

The morning only got better when I got a text from my friend saying our school buses weren't running. A tad overdramatic, since we only had like 5cm, BUT STILL!

So I had a snowday today! Two in a year, craaaaaazy stuff. Me and a bunch of peeps went sledging and then went and sat in Costa Coffee, dripping slightly and redfaced with exertion.

So fun.

But then I whizzed home for a driving lesson in the snow [in the SNOW!] which was sliiiiiightly [very] scary.

I think that this will be a goooooood week :)

Sunday 25 January 2009

Scone or Scone?

Me and mum did some baking today! We haven't made anything in ages, and we got to try out baking in the new ovens. We made some scones [how do you say it? I've always been brought up to say scone like stone, and I'm the only person I know who says it like that! Pronunciation is a bizarre thing...] and they're gooooooood :)

Just another thing to miss next year. Dear meeeeee, I keep wavering between emotional at the thought of leaving for Uni and being super excited.

Okay, so last week's plans didn't exactly to... plan? I managed to fail my theory by ONE point [oh the embarrassment] and had a mini panic attack driving later that afternoon. Roundabouts were invented to give me heart attacks, I'm convinced. But on the plus side, I got my job! I've worked two shifts and was meant to be working tonight too but they texted and said it'd be quiet and I wouldn't be needed. I'm also putting my leftover Christmas money in the bank tomorrow, so my financial crisis is over.... for now.

Jeeeeeeez I'm tired. The world needs to stop spinning quite so fast. More soon when I have time to actually breathe.

xo

PS. Lady GaGa = <3

Friday 16 January 2009

My way, or the Highway[Code]

So tomorrow's my driving theory. I borrowed a question book and interactive (I assume) DVD from S. But, in typical Demi fashion, it's been left til 9pm the night before, since I have been sat catching up with The Hills all evening. I am actually so ashamed! *Hangs head*

So ridiculously stupid, yet so addictive. I want to be an LA girl!

Although the weather has turned grim here again, nicht gut. And I was having a serious mooch day, which resulted in the following Friday outfit.

dress - Tu at Sainsbury's, cardigan - New Look, tights - Pretty Polly, necklace - H&M, bracelets - Mum's/Vintage
I couldn't even be bothered with my hair today, hence the messy bun. I normally wear this dress with a belt since otherwise it's a bit shapeless, but I went for comfort today :)
AND, I wore my new shoes to school.

shoes - Matalan

These were such a bargain I couldn't resist. Although I conveniently forgot that I had a ten minute walk between classes up a slight hill. Luckily, common sense prevailed and I tucked a pair of flats in my bag ;)
The leggings turned out to be 3/4 length, which is a no-no for me and my legs. Ahh, the joys of being a shorty.
RIGHT, so next time I post I hope to have A) a job and B) passed my theory! I'm going job hunting after my test, and I think I know a restaurant in need of a slightly clumsy waitress.
Here's hoping. xo

Thursday 15 January 2009

Laziness is my forte

It's 11am on a Thursday and I'm still laid in bed, my laptop perched on my bent knees. I should really be ashamed of myself. But lets face it, who wouldn't take advantage of four free periods?

Although Mum's making me drive in for last lesson, even though I have explained to her several times now there. is. no. point. But she's insistant.

If only I had Psych last rather than Lit. As soon as she heard I had Lit she was like, right you're going.

Damn my foolish choice to take English at Uni!

At least she said we could stop off at Matalan on the way to school, since I have my eyes on some new studded leggings. They didn't have them in my size when we popped in last week.

Also, major disaster; my bank statement came through and I have spent FAR too much money this last month. Which means one thing: I need a job, and badly.

I so wish money grew on trees. xo

Friday 9 January 2009

Friday Outfit

I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore fashion addict. I know several, so I have someone to compare myself to. I couldn't 'name that designer' or reel off the last 5 cover girls of Vogue like I'm sure they could. I'm more of a fashion fan. I love shopping. I love discovering shops or websites no-one else knows about. I dress for me - what fits, what colours suit me, and what I'm comfortable in. I'm not saying I never dabble in trends, but I would describe my own style as very classic, pretty basic and low budget, jazzed up with accessories.

It's always been like that. My mum's not a fashion fan, and thinks it's stupid to spend a ton of money on clothes that will be out of style in a few months, or can be found much cheaper elsewhere. And I'm the same really. That's not to say I'm not tempted when I have a flick through Grazia or have a look on ASOS.com. I just know that [most of the time] it's not worth the money. When you've lived on a clothes budget most of your life, you learn to compromise.

Today's outfit was a prime example.

[Excuse the shoddy camera work. I'm in desperate need of a new camera.]
white shirt and black brocade skirt - Matalan, patent belt - New Look, leggings - Tesco
Maybe I'm not the most fashionable gal in school, but I'm happy and comfortable with my style. Although my wardrobe is in dire need of a clearout and new basics. I'm looking for a job as soon as I take my driving theory test next Saturday.
I ended up caving in and buying the Gossip Girl first series. Half price was just too tempting. I also bought the black and gold brocade skirt I featured a few posts ago, as well as a navy, long boyfriend cardigan, FINALLY! I love it, it's so cosy. But the skirt's too big, which is a shame because it's gorgeous. I'm going to take it into town and see if they have a size 8. I haven't been a size 8 in a while. I lost a bunch of weight over the holidays from just eating dinner and drinking about 8 cups of tea a day.
While I'm on the topic of purchases, my package arrived from My Vintage Charms!
For a grand total of like 6 quid [including p&p] I was impressed. I wore my fish today and got a bunch of compliments. Although I did have to go without my scarf, since it's quite delicate, and ended up half-frozen. Clever.

I've started listening to All American Rejects again. It's not a good sign. First the glitter eyeliner... now this?

I think I'm regressing.

xo

PS. I am in love with the film Little Miss Sunshine. It's my new favourite ever ever. I love Dwayne to bits; me and mum almost cried when he found out he... well, I won't say in case anyone's not seen it :)

Thursday 8 January 2009

Psyched out

Well, I survived my Psych AS resit. I can't remember the last time I was that nervous. I took this morning off for study leave, could barely sit still and nearly burst into tears a couple of times. Mainly because I thought I'd done enough notes and stuff, only to find out I'd missed a chunk of the syllabus and had to dash and find my notes from last year.

Bad times.

As it turned out, we got the ideal question. Yeah, my hand cramped up from gripping my pen too hard and yeah, my handwriting was atrocious towards the end, but... I'm almost positive that it's enough to bring my grade up to an A overall. I hope so.

So I've had three days back at school so far (today didn't really count since I went in at lunch) and this term is going to be much better than last term, I can tell. For starters, the bulk of my coursework(s) are out of the way. We've started Schizophrenia in Psych with one teacher, and Sleep and Dreams with the other. It's really interesting, and I think I now have an answer for why I get up in the middle of the night and think it's time to get up! We're finally moving onto new texts in Lit, and we've started children's reading and writing in Lang which is pretty cute actually.

So yeah, looking forward to it :)

Aside from school, I also have skiing to look forward to in February, and the real start of the 18th Birthday season! All of my group's birthdays are '91, so it's party tiiime *dances* We had S's birthday party last Friday, which was fun. Next up is KL's at the end of February. Woop! I might buy a new dress for it, since I've worn my two no-longer-new dresses a few times now.

Speaking of dresses.... I think I've found my Leaver's Ball Dress!!! Or prom dress, let's face it. Americanised but quicker to say.

My only worry is it's length, and the fact it's more of a party dress maybe. A says it's too party-dressy, but the rest of the group loved it. So I think I'll stick with it, considering A has a longer than floor-length dress more suitable for the Oscars. At least in this I'll be able to go to the after-party at Moko in town!

What else... Oh, I finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The end is so sad! I'm now onto Jane Eyre, which I'm kinda pushing myself to read. I can't arrive at University to read English without having read Jane Eyre really, can I? It's like... the ultimate classic.

Bah, I hate Classics. I'd rather watch Gossip Girl. Speaking of which, the DVD box set is half price on Amazon. I'm incredibly tempted.

xo
